A Traditional Italian Christmas

Instagram

History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.
Candied violets and doughnuts... Today I've dedicated myself to sugar-coating the beautiful and the gluttonous. Pure hedonism on a cold, windy spring day.
It still amazes me how much you can discover on a walk around Volterra... this morning I walked down to the cemetery of the ex-psychiatric institute where those who passed away without their families requesting a funeral were buried. Notwithstanding the sadness of the circumstances, a beautiful place. Walking back up the hill I found what must have been an Etruscan tomb on the side of the road, and the elegantly solitary convent of San Girolamo (fitting for a hermit like St. Jerome). Just minutes from Volterra... So much to see.
Sunflowers. The contrast of Tim Burton-esque figures with an idyllic Tuscan field in the background, both Gothic and bucolic.
Lunch.
Sunset. Today. Stunning, fleeting moments.
